Date Mixture:
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/3 cup chopped dates
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup chocolate chips

2 cups flour
Cake:

1 cup shortening
Topping:
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup chopped pecans
2 eggs
1 cup chocolate chips
1/4 cup cocoa

Directions:
Directions:
In a saucepan, boil water then add chopped dates and baking soda. Remove from heat and let stand.

In the meantime, combine cake ingredients. Add in the date mixture and pour the batter in a 9x13 greased pan. Sprinkle pecans and the additional 1 cup of chocolate chips across the top of the cake.

Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes. Eat cake warm topped with whipped cream.
