2 c finely chopped dates ( use fresh only not pre chopped ones)
1 Tablespoon flour
1 c water. Simmer above ingredients for 10 min. remove from heat. Then add 1 teas vanilla.
In another bowl mix together:
1 c brown sugar
1 c flour
1 teas soda
2 c oats ( oatmeal)
Melt 1/2 of butter and mix these ingredients.

Spread 2/3 of flour and oats mixture with butter in bottom of greased 9x13 pan. Cover with the date mixture. Spread the remainder of flour and oats mixture over top. Pat down with back of spoon.
Bake at 375 degrees for 30 min.
Cool then cut into bars.

This is another recipe from Myrna Frazine my cousin. This was also my Grandma Hoover's recipe. This is really a old fashion cookie that they made a lot when my mom was little. If you like fig Newton's you'll like this.
