1 cup sifted cake flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup raisins, chopped
1 cup chopped nuts
3/4 cup applesauce, hot, thick

1. Measure sifted flour. Add baking powder, baking soda, salt and spices and sift together 3 times. Cream butter, add sugar. Beat 2 minutes, add egg and beat well. Add chopped nuts and raisins. Add flour mixture alternately with applesauce. Beat well. Bake in a moderate over at 350 degrees, 45 to 60 minutes.

2. Frost with caramel frosting.
