Ingredients:
Bread dough

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oil or crisco in a cast iron skillet. Should be enough to fill the pan with about 1/4 inch of hot oil. After bread dough (homemade or frozen) has risen, slice off in pieces about 3 inches X 2 inches and 1/2 inch thick (it's difficult to describe this in cooking directions - you'll learn through experience). Drop in hot oil and cook until golden brown. Flip over once and cook on other side until also nice and brown. Remove from oil and drain on paper towel.
Great with butter, jelly or jam, or Maria (being Italian) dipped them in pizza sauce (not the Nebraska tradition, but very tasty).

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
We were treated to fried bread more often than any other treat in Mom's kitchen. She always mixed up the bread dough by hand until that became difficult. She then used her bread machine or frozen bread dough.
