"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

2 apples, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 cup water
3 cups shredded cabbage
2 ribs celery, chopped
2 carrots, grated
3 green onions, chopped
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup mayonnaise
Salt and pepper to taste

Soak the sliced apples in the lemon juice and water to prevent browning.

Drain and pat dry.

Combine with the cabbage, celery, carrot and chopped onion.

In another bowl, combine the sour cream, mayonnaise, salt and pepper.

Pour over slaw and mix.

Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Serve with fried chicken and mashed potatoes.

This dish is great to take on picnics and to potlucks too!
