6 or 8 large potatoes
1 medium onion, sliced
1 t salt
1-1 1/2 pound sliced ham
Butter
1/2 c. breadcrumbs

White sauce:
1 T butter
1 T flour
1 c water
1/4 t salt

Directions:
Directions:
Peel and slice potatoes, par boiling them with onions for 3 or 4 minutes. Immediately remove from water to cool.

Mix together white sauce in a saucepan and set aside.

Butter 9x13" dish and layer potatoes along bottom. Alternate with ham, beginning and ending with potatoes. Add sauce over top. Sprinkle top with breadcrumbs, dot with butter. If more liquid is needed, pot liquor from potatoes can be used.

Cream of mushroom or celery can also be used in place of white sauce. 1 cup grated cheese can be added to sauce.
