Ingredients:  
1 cup white corn meal
teaspoon salt
1 egg, beaten
1 cup buttermilk
teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon shortening

Directions:
Directions:
Sift dry ingredients together. Mix egg and buttermilk and add to dry ingredients. Add shortening and pour into a greased shallow pan (cast iron skillet). Bake in a very hot oven (450 F.). 18 minutes
