1/2 cup butter or margarine
2 cups brown sugar, packed
1/2 tsp salt
1 large can condensed milk
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Melt butter in heavy pan. Slowly add sugar, then salt. Add milk very slowly, stirring. Add vanilla. Store, covered, in refrigerator. Reheat over hot water or use cold.

Although Mom didn't make this often in recent years, she used to make it frequently when I was still at home. Most people would probably feel that this sauce is best over vanilla ice cream, but I could eat a quart of this stuff all by itself.
