1/2 c shortening
1 c sugar
1 egg
2 c flour
1/8 t salt
1 t cinnamon
1/2 t cloves
1 t cocoa
1 c chopped raisins
1 c chopped nuts
2 t baking soda
1/2 c hot water
1 t vanilla
1 1/2 c applesauce

Glaze
1 c powdered sugar
lemon juice

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening, sugar and egg. Sift together flour, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and cocoa. Combine dry ingredients with raisins and nuts. Dissolve soda in hot water, then add vanilla. Alternate flour mixture, applesauce and creamed mixture, mixing thoroughly. Bake in 300 degree oven for 30-40 minutes, uintil done, depending on size of pan.

Glaze with about a cup of powdered sugar with lemon juice to make thin consistency.
