1 Cup Boiling Water
1 tsp. Soda
1/2 Cup Butter
1/2 Cup Shortening
1 Egg
1/2 tsp Salt
1 Cup Sugar
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 TLB. Cocoa
1 3/4 Cup Flour

Combine boiling water and soda; set aside to cool. Cream butter and shortening together. Add egg, sugar and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients together. Add alternately with soda water. (Add dates or raisins if desired). Pour batter into a greased 9 x 13 inch baking pan. Sprinkle nuts and chocolate chips on top of cake. Bake 45 minutes at 325 degrees.

1 large grassy field
1 dozen children
3 small dogs -any size will do -
1 mommy to supervise
A small brook
1 handful of pebbles
Lots of wildflowers
Mix children and dogs together well. Turn into grassy field. Spread deep blue sky over all. Bake in the warm sunshine. Place mommy in any corner. When thoroughly browned, remove children. Set away to cool in a warm bathtub. Works everytime!!
