Pastry:
4 c. flour
1 T. baking powder
2 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
1 1/4 c. water

Filling:
1 lb. round steak, cut into 1" cubes
2 c. diced potatoes
1 onion, chopped
4 carrots, chopped
salt, pepper
butter

Directions:
Directions:
For pastry, combine flour, baking powder and salt; cut in shortening until mixture resembles course crumbs. Add liquid, adjusting if necessary till slightly wetter than regular pie dough. Divide dough into 6 parts, and roll out each piece to form a 10" circle.

For filling, combine meat, vegetables, salt and pepper. Place a mound of filling on 1/2 of each circle of pastry, and fold pastry over filling. Press edge with tines of fork to seal. Place on ungreased cookie sheet at 400º and bake for 50 to 60 minutes.

This recipe came from my dad's mom (my nana). They used to put these in the men's lunch pails when they went to work in the mines in Hibbing, MN. My grandpa was an architect for the mining company.
