3/4 c butter
1/2 c sugar
1 egg
1 c flour (sifted)
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/8th tsp salt
1/2 c chopped pecans
1/3 c chopped dates
1/2 cup buttermilk
Grated orange rind

Directions:
Directions:
Cream 3/4 cube butter with 1/2 cup white sugar. Add 1 egg and beat till light. Sift together 1 cup of flour (sifted) 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1/8th tsp salt.

Blend flour mixture into butter mixture alternatively with 1/2 cup buttermilk. Add grated rind of an orange. Fold in 1/2 cup chopped pecans, 1/3 cup chopped dates blended with 2 tablespoons flour.

Bake in a 1 1/2 quart round tube pan at 350º for 50 minutes.

when cake is hot prick all over with long toothpicks and pour 1/3 cup fresh orange juice mixed with 1/4 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons or orange liqueur. Cool, wrap and freeze for future use.

To serve, slice and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
