2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. flour
4-1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 c. almonds, finely chopped
6 egg whites, stiffly beaten
1 c. milk
1 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar, shortening, and vanilla thoroughly. Sift flour before measuring. Sift dry ingredients together. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Beat enough to be smooth. Stir in almonds. Fold in egg whites. Pour into greased & floured cake pans. Fills two or three 9" round cake pans. Bake at 375º for 30 minutes. Cool 10 minutes before removing from pan. Frost with white frosting when cool.
