Pie - Peanut Butter Recipe

1 cup white sugar
2 cups milk
3 tablespoons cornstarch
4 egg yolks, (set aside whites for meringue)
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 tablespoons butter
1 baked deep dish pie shell

1 cup powdered sugar
3 heaping tablespoons peanut butter

4 egg whites
2 tablespoons sugar

Mix sugar, milk and cornstarch. Heat until starts to thicken. Remove from heat and put small amount of hot mixture into egg yolks. Stir and return to heat. Continue stirring until mixture boils. Cook 3 minutes. Remove from heat and add butter and vanilla. Mix well. Pour half of filling into a deep dish baked crust. Set aside.
Mix powdered sugar and peanut butter until it is crumbly. Sprinkle of crumbles on top of filling. Pour remaining vanilla filling on top of crumbles.
Beat egg whites until soft peaks. Add 2 tablespoons sugar and beat until stiff. Spread on pie; add remaining crumbles on top of pie. Cook in slow oven at 325 until brown, about 10 - 12 minutes.
