1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
4 egg yolks, beaten, (save the whites for later)
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon soda
2 cups self-rising flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
teaspoon cloves
teaspoon allspice
1 cup blackberry jam or jelly
1 cup pecans or black walnuts
- 1 cup raisins
4 egg whites, stiffly beaten

Caramel Icing:
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
2 teaspoons Karo white syrup
2 teaspoons butter
2/3 cup cream or milk

Beat butter and sugar until creamy. Add beaten egg yolks. Add soda to buttermilk and mix. Add to mixture. Mix flour, cinnamon, cloves and allspice. Add dry ingredients to mixture. Add jam or jelly, nuts and raisins. Add the stiffly beaten egg whites the last thing. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

Caramel Icing:
Cook over low heat until sugar dissolves and boils. Cover and cook 2 minutes. Beat until of spreading consistency.
