1 - 4-ounce bar Bakers German sweet chocolate
cup boiling water
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs, separated
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups sifted cake flour
teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup buttermilk
4 egg whites, stiffly beaten

Coconut-Pecan Frosting
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 cup evaporated milk
3 egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/3 cups flaked coconut
1 cup pecans, chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350. Grease 3 round cake pans and line bottoms with waxed paper circles or 9X13-inch pan. Place the chocolate in a bowl and pour boiling water over the chocolate, stir to melt. Cool. Combine sugar and butter. Beat until fluffy. Beat in egg yolks, one at a time. Beat in chocolate and vanilla on low speed. Mix in flour, soda and salt alternately with buttermilk, beating after each addition. Fold in egg whites. Divide batter 3 ways. Bake 35-40 minutes. Cool. May use cake mix.

Coconut-Pecan Frosting:
Combine first 4 ingredients. Cook over medium heat about 12 minutes until thickened and reaches a boil, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla, coconut and pecans. Beat. Frost between layers , top and sides.
