3/4 c. shortening
1c. sugar
1/4c. dark molasses
2tsp. baking soda
2c. flour
1/4tsp. salt
1tsp. ground cloves
1tsp. cinnamon
1/2tsp. ground ginger

cream together shortening & sugar. add egg & molasses and cream. in separate bowl sift together
remaining ingredients. add gradually to creamed mixture. form dough into balls & roll in sugar or powdered sugar if you prefer. bake on greased cookie sheet at 325 for about 10 min.
