5-1/4 cups flour
1-1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 Tlbs. cinnamon
1-1/2 tsp. cloves
1-1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2-1/4 cups soft butter
3 cups brown sugar
3 eggs, unbeaten
3 cups thick unsweetened applesauce
1-1/2 cups raisins
1-1/2 cups chopped nuts

Directions:

Cream shortening, sugar and egg together until light and fluffy.
Stir in baking powder, salt and all spices.
Add flour alternately with applesauce.
Add raisins and nuts and blend thoroughly.
Bake on greased baking sheet at 37 degrees for about 15 minutes.

This family favorite came from Alberta Bartee, one of the friends I lived with in Los Angeles so many years ago. It is one cookie without chocolate chips that my kids always loved.
It freezes well, also is a great one to mail to kids away from home.
