1/2 c shortening
1 c brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg
1/4 c milk
1 3/4 c sifted flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 1/2 c Dessert Currants

Directions:
Directions:
Beat together first 3 ingredients. Stir in milk. Mix and sift flour, salt, soda, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add to first mixture. Add currants. Mix well. Chill one hour. Drop by spoonfuls 2" apart on lightly oiled cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes in a moderate oven (375).
