1/2 c. chopped onion (or more)
2 T. oil
1-1/2 pounds ground beef
2 cloves garlic
2 - 1-lb. cans tomatoes
2 - 8-oz. cans tomato sauce
1/4 c. parsley
1-1/2 t. oregano
1 T. salt
1-1/2 T. sugar
1 bay leaf
1 t. basil
1 c. water
Small box of fresh mushrooms, chopped or sliced or one 3 oz. can sliced mushrooms

Directions:
Directions:
In large skillet, cook onion in hot oil until almost tender. Add meat and garlic; brown lightly. Add remaining ingredients.
Simmer uncovered for 1-1/2 to2 hours. Stir occasionally. Remove bay leaf. Serve over hot spaghetti.

I usually increase all ingredients, especially spices, and usually add tomato paste to thicken some.
