Ingredients:  
1 16oz. pitted dates
1 c. cold water
1 tsp. soda
1/4 lb. butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 c. flour
1 pinch salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Add water and dates, cook until tender, add soda, stir and let cool.
Add butter, sugar and egg to cooled mixture, mix, add flour, salt and vanilla, then add nuts.
Bake 300 degree 1 1/2 hr. in buttered loaf pan.
