3 c sifted flour-level
1 c sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp nutmeg
1 c shortening
1 c currants
2 eggs
6 tsp milk

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly. Add beaten eggs and milk. Add flour, baking powder, salt, soda, and nutmeg. Last stir in currants. Mix all good and chill for several hours or overnight. Shape into small balls and flatten out and fry on hot griddle or electric pan. Brown on one side then turn and brown on the other. When done, roll in sugar and let cool.
