2 pkgs active dry yeast, 2/4 cup warm water, 2-2/3 cups warm water, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 tbsp salt, 3 tbsp shortening, 9 to 10 cups flour.

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve yeast in 3/4 cup warm water. Stir in 2-2/3 cups warm water, the sugar, salt, shortening and 5 cups of flour. Knead 10 minutes, let rise about 1 hour. Punch dough down, divide in half, put in 2 greased loaf pans. Brush lightly with butter, bake in 425 degree oven 30 to 35 minutes

This is an old German receipe handed down from a very dear friend, Velma Marsett who received it from her mother. It is wonderful warm with lots of butter.
