1/2 c shortening 1 1/4 c sugar 2 eggs 1/2 c cold water 1/2 c cocoa 2 tsp baking soda 3/4 c buttermilk 2 c flour
Mix cold water with cocoa and baking soda and set aside. Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and beat well. Alternate buttermilk & flour and beat well. Last add cocoa mixture and just mix until blended. Do not over beat at this point. Bake at 350º for 30 minutes or until done.
