4 cups thinly sliced sweet onions (Vidalia or Walla Walla)
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
1/4 cup butter
5 1/2 cups wqter
1/2 cup white wine
8 tsps beef flavored instant bullion or 8 bullion cubes
6 slices french bread, 3/4 inches thick, buttered and toasted
6 slices natural swiss cheese

Directions:
In large saucepan, cook onio and garlic in margerine until onios are golden brown (this takes a while, and you need to pay attention and stir!!) Add water, wine and boullion; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes to blend flavors. Place soup into 6 oven-proof bowls. Top each serving with a bread slice and cheese. Broil until cheese melts. Serve immediately
