1 Cup Brown Sugar
1 Cup Shortening
2 Eggs beaten,
1/2 tsp vanilla,
3 cups flour,
1 tsp baking powder,
1 tsp soda dissolved in 2 tbsp boiling water.

FILLING:
1 1/2 Cups Dates or Raisins.
2/3 Cup of Sugar
1 Cup Boiling Water.
Chopped nuts if desired

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening and sugar, add eggs,flavoring and soda. Sift flour,baking powder, add gradually to the mixture and blend well. Chill dough before rolling out on a floured board. Roll thin and cut in circles, Place a spoonful of the filling on the cookie top with another cookie. Press the edges together. Bake 10 minutes at 350 degrees.
To Make Filling Cook Mixture until thick and cool.
