1 egg
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup buttermilk
1/3 cup oil
1/4 cup molasses
1 1/2 cups whole bran cereal
1 cup flour
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves

2 tablespoons sugar

Lightly beat egg in bowl. Add 1/4 cup sugar, buttermilk, oil and molasses; beat well. Stir in cereal. Let stand 10 minutes.

Combine flour and all remaining ingredients except the 2 tablespoons of sugar in egg mixture; mix well.

Heat oven to 375º.

Line 12 muffin cups with paper baking cups. Divide batter evenly. Sprinkle each with 1/2 teaspoon sugar.

Bake at 375º for 20-25 minutes.

Serve warm or cool.
