Directions:
We have tried traditional pound cakes: 1 lb butter, 1 lb sugar, 1 lb flour, 1lb eggs about 8-10 and any number of variations. But we like this one best. It differs from a true pound cake in that milk is one of the components. Preheat oven to 300º. Sift before measuring: 4 cups cake flour Resift with: 1 tsp salt, 2 tsp double acting baking powder. Cream very well: 1 lb butter Add and continue creaming until light: 3 cups sugar Add, one at a time, and continue beating well after each addition: 8 eggs Add the flour mixture alternately with: 1 cup milk 2 tsp vanilla. Stir only until thoroughly blended. Bake in greased pan for 1 hour.

This is a recipe that was passed down to Samples by their mom who learned from her mother Mon. If you ask Aunt Parthenia and Mother Byrd you'll most likely get the same recipe.
