1 lb bacon, diced
1/4 lb ham, diced
6 cups chopped onions
12 cups diced potatoes
5 cups water
6 cups minced clams, drain and reserve juice
1/4 flour
6 cups milk

Directions:
Directions:
Saute bacon and ham, add onions and cook until limp. Set aside. Don't drain off bacon fat. Place potatoes in 5 cups water and clam juice, add salt and pepper to flavor. Cook until potatoes are tender. Set aside and don't drain. To the bacon mixture, add flour and make a roux. Mix roux into potato mixture. Bring to a boil. Stir down when boiling point is reached, add milk and clams. Don't allow to boil again once milk has been added. Garnish with butter and paprika.

I use half and half in place of some of the milk. I make this every year for the family while we are at the beach. Many years we used clams we had dug in the morning.
