1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
2 c. raisins
2 c. applesauce
2 T. soda
1 tsp. vanilla
3 ½ c. flour
2 c. nuts
¼ tsp. cinnamon
¼ tsp. ginger
¼ tsp. allspice

Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar together and when you think it has been creamed enough, cream some more. This is the secret of this cake. Add warm raisins and applesauce with soda stirred in. Sprinkle with spices and mix again. Do not us too much spice. Add vanilla and flour, then add nuts. Bake 1 hour at 350º.
