1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. canned applesauce
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves or 1/4 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. flour
1 c. raisins (optional)
1 c. broken walnuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream the shortening, sugar and egg together. Add the applesauce, baking soda and stir. Add the remaining ingredients along with the raisins and walnuts, if desired. Mix thoroughly. Drop by teaspoonfuls on cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for 10-12 minutes.

These were one of my favorite cookies that Mom always made for the family. They are so moist and delicious. I can taste them now...
