1 c Eagle Brand milk
2 c sugar
1 c butter
1/4 t salt
1 1/2 c light corn syrup

For Licorice:
3/4 t licorice oil
3/4 t black food coloring

For Caramels:
1 t vanilla

In heavy pan, add milk, sugar, butter, salt, and corn syrup. Continue stirring while cooking. Heat until candy is at 235 degrees (soft ball stage). Remove from heat.

If making licorice, add the licorice oil and food coloring. If making caramels, add the vanilla instead. Stir until well mixed. Pour into buttered 8x8 pan and chill slightly. You can cut into small pieces and wrap in plastic wrap, tie ends with decorative ribbon.
