1 (2 1/2 - 3 lb.) broiler-fryer
2 quarts water
3 cubes chicken bouillion
1 t salt
1/2 t pepper
2 C all purpose flour
1/2 t baking soda
1/2 t salt
3 T shortening
3/4 C buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Put chicken in crock pot with water, 1 t salt and chicken bouillion. Cook all day at low temperature.
Remove chicken and let it cool slightly. Cut meat into bitesize pieces; set aside. Transfer broth to Dutch oven and bring to boil; add pepper.

Combine flour, soda and 1/2 t salt; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add buttermilk, stirring with a fork until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto
well-floured surface, and knead lightly 4 or 5 times.

Pat dough to 1/4" thickness. Pinch off dough in 1 1/2" pieces and drop into boiling broth. Reduce heat to med-low, and cook 8 - 10 min. or to desired consistency, stirring occasionally. Stir in chicken.
