2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º. Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, ginger, allspice and cinnamon and mix well. Set aside. Cream the shortening and sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the molasses. Add the buttermilk and mix well. Add the flour mixture and mix thoroughly. Fill greased muffin cups 2/3 full. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown. Batter may be refrigerated in a covered container for several days. Yield 2 dozen.
