Place in mixing bowl: 1 square bitter chocolate (cut up)
1/2 cup boiling water; stir until cho. melts & let cool.
Sift together & add:
1c flour 1c sugar
1/2 t baking soda 1/4 t baking powder
1/2 t salt Add 1/4 cut shortening

Directions:

Mix with mixer on medium speed for 1 min. Add 1/4 cup sour milk, 1/2 t vanilla, 1 egg. Beat for 1 minute. Bake in square pan 8x8x2 at 350 degrees - 35 to 40 minutes.
