1 cup shortening (1/2 Crisco, 1/2 Oleo)
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 cup buttermilk
pinch of salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. lemon extract (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening, oleo and sugar. Add eggs one at a time; beat well. Add buttermilk, vanilla and extract if desired. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture. Bake in 3 nine-inch pans at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes.
