"As viscous as motor oil swirled in a swamp, redolent of burnt bell peppers nested in by incontinent mice and a finish reminiscent of the dregs of a stale can of Coca-Cola that someone has been using as an ashtray. Not a bad drink, though."--Excerpt from "The Moose Turd Wine Tasting" by T. A. Nonymous

Cook shortening and onion on low/med. until onions turn almost black. Then slowly add flour until the consistency of paste. If too thick, add more shortening. Lower heat and continue stirring until brown. About 1/2 hour. Put in jar and save in refrigerator.

When you make gravy, add this mixture instead of flour.

Personal Notes:
This makes a wonderfully flavored gravy that is lump free. My mother used to make this for me as her mother did for her. Not too healthy---------but either is gravy :-)
