"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Directions:
Mix sugar, yeast and warm water together until dissolved. Pour into bowl. Add oil and buttermilk and mix until blended with a whisk. Add baking powder and soda and continue to whisk until blended. Add flour, 1 cup at a time and mix thoroughly until mixture is the consistency of molasses. Continue to mix and knead with spatula until dough is the consistency of play dough. Cover and let rise until doubled in size, or overnight. When ready to make rolls, pinch dough the size of an egg and knead with hands, adding flour until dough is no longer sticky. Place in lightly oiled pan. Cover and let double in size again. Bake in preheated 375º oven for 30-45 minutes until golden brown.
