Cookies:
1 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 1/4 c. hot water
2 c. oatmeal
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt

Filling:
1 lb. dates
1 c. sugar
1 c water

Directions:
Directions:
Prepare filling by combining all ingredients in a saucepan. Cook until thick then allow to cool.

Mix cookies and roll into small balls and flatten with a fork. Bake at 375 until done.

Spread cooled filling between 2 cookies, sandwich style.
