¾ c shortning or margerine
1 c packed brown sugar
½ c sugar
1 egg
¼ c water
1 tsp. Vanilla extract
3 c old fashioned oatmeal
1 c plain flour
1 tsp. Salt
½ tsp. Baking soda
Raisins or nuts can be added if desired

Directions:

Cream shortning or margarine with sugars until creamy add egg, water and vanilla. Add flour, salt and soda and blend well. Slowly add oats and mix until blended. Drop by tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheet.. Bake at 350 º for 10 - 12 minutes.
