1 lb ground beef
½ lb Italian sausage
1 medium onion diced
2 tsp. Olive oil
2 sm. Cans tomato paste
1 ¼ c water
1 tsp basil
1 tsp oregeno
1/2 tsp thyme
3 whole bay leaves
1 c grated mozzarella cheese
1 c ricotta cheese
1 egg
1 package lasagna noodles

Directions:
Heat olive oil in large skillet, add onions and cook until onions are slightly transparent. Add ground beef and Italian sausage. Continue to cook until all meat is brown and well broken up. Add basil, thyme and oregano. Add tomato paste and water and stir until all is mixed well. Add 3 bay leaves. Let simmer on low heat for about 30 minutes. Remove bay leaves before pouring over pasta. Prepare the noodles as package directs, then drain. Mix mozzarella cheese and ricotta cheese with egg, until creamy. Use a large 13x9 inch rectangle pan. Starting with the meat mixture, scoop enough into pan to cover bottom. Lay out enough noodles to cover the sauce, then enough of the cheese mixture to cover the noodles. Continue to layer, meat, noodles and cheese until you end up with the final layer of cheese. Should be about 3 layers. Cook in 350 º oven for about 1 hour. Remove from oven and let set for 15 minutes before serving.
