5 c.flour
l c. sugar
1 lb. butter room temperature
1.4 tsp. almond extract

Directions:
Preheat oven to 300 degrees
Knead, by hand, all of the above ingredients. May use mixer for first three cups of flour. Add fifth cup of flour until dough has formed a soft ball. Press into cookie sheet pan.Roll out evenly, With table fork prick entire surface 1/4 inch apart. Bake in 300 degree oven for one hour or until golden brown.
Remove from oven abd immediately cut into squares, whichever size you prefer. Can be stored in refregerator in plastic container or in a tin. .

I store shortbread in plastic container and remove pieced as needed. It is delightful served with wedges of cheese or as a desert served with strawberries.
