4 cups brown sugar
7 cups flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tbsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. salt
1 cup lard (or Crisco) and butter (mixed)
4 well beaten eggs
4 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and lard (or shortening) and sugar. Add salt, soda and cream of tartar. Add eggs and vanilla, then flour. Mix well and form into 3 rolls. Wrap in wax paper, put on baking board and leave overnight. Next morning cut in thin slices, place on greased baking sheet. Bake in hot (400ºF) oven for 10 to 15 minutes until light brown.
