Ingredients: Bottom layer: 1/2 cup sifted all-purpose flour 1/4 teaspoon soda 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 cup quick-cooking rolled oats 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup butter, melted Middle layer: 1 square (1 ounce) unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled 1/4 cup butter, melted 3/4 cup granulated sugar 1 egg 2/3 cup sifted all-purpose flour 1/4 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 cup milk 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 cup chopped walnuts Frosting: 1 square (1 oz) unsweetened chocolate 2 Tbsp. butter 1½ cups powdered sugar 1/2 tsp. vanilla Walnut halves, optional

Directions:Bottom layer: Sift together flour, soda, and salt; combine with oats and brown sugar. stir in 1/2 c melted butter. Pat mixture in bottom of 11x7x1-1/2 inch baking pan; Bake in a 350 oven for 10 minutes. Middle layer: Stir together egg, sugar, 2/3c flour, milk, butter, chocolate, vanilla and baking powder until smooth, Fold in chopped walnuts. Spread batter over baked layer. Bake 25 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. Set on wire rack. Cool. Frosting: Combine 1 oz of chocolate and 2T butter in saucepan, stir over low heat until chocolate melts. Remove from heat, stir powdered sugar and 1 tsp vanilla. Blend in enough hot water (~2 tbl) to make almost pourable consistency. Spread over cooled brownies. Top with walnut halves.
