fresh peas or butterbeans
cured meat (pork) or several bacon slices
salt to taste
pinch of sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Take bacon or any kind of cured meat (pork). Cut it up into small pieces. Put in boiler. Wash peas through at least 2-3 times. Put peas in boiler with meat, add salt, sugar and cover completely with tap water. Cook about 2 hours. Keep the peas covered with water. Taste to be sure that they are tender as some will cook quicker than others.

If you like boiled okra, throw several okra pods in with beans or peas as they cook. They give them a good flavor.
