1 c sour milk
1 t baking soda
2 c flour
1 egg well beaten
2 T soft butter
1 c sugar
1 3/4 t baking powder
1/2 t salt

cinnamon sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Lightly grease an 8 x 8 pan.
To sour the milk, add 3 t lemon juice or vinegar to a measuring cup and add enough milk to make 1 cup. Let set for 5 min before using. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, butter and salt in a large bowl. To the measuring cup with the milk add the baking soda and the egg. Add this liquid to the dry ingredients and mix with a spoon until well blended. Pour into prepared pan and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and bits of butter and nuts. Bake until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean (approx. 20 min)

Mom remembers Grandma Gelineau bringing this warm coffee cake to her in the hospital after she delivered her first child, Kathy in Sept. 1954. Grandma was a nurse and was just beginning her shift, that means she had to make this before leaving for work. Do you think this could be the reason for the 20 Minute Coffee Cake? Hmmm
