1/2 C Butter or Margarine softened
1/2 C Shortening
1 C Confectioner's Sugar
1 Egg
1 1/2 t Almond Extract
1 t Vanilla
2 1/2 C Flour
1 t Salt
1/2 t Red Food Coloring
1/2 C Crushed Candy Canes mixed with 1/2 C Sugar (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 375. Mix thouroughly butter, shortening, confectioner's sugar, egg, and flavorings. Blend in flour and salt. Divide dough in half. Blend food color into one half. Shape 1 t dough from each half into 4 inch rope. Place side by side. Press together slightly and twist. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and curve top of cookie down to form handle of cane. Bake 9 minutes until lightly browned. Sprinkle with candy mix as soon as cookies come out of oven (optional)
