1 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
3 egg yolks
1 cup sour cream
Grated rind of 1 orange
2 cups sifted cake flour (or 1-3/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour)
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
3 egg whites
Orange Syrup (recipe follows)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolks, sour cream and orange rind; beat until light and fluffy. Sift together flour, baking powder and baking soda. Stir into first mixture. Fold in egg whites which have been beaten until stiff but not dry. Turn into an oiled and floured 9" tube pan. Bake at 350 for 1 hour. Remove from oven and let stand for about 10 minutes. Loosen carefullyaround the edge and turn out onto a plate with a rim. Pour hot Orange Syrup slowly over top of cake.
Orange Syrup:
Juice of 2 oranges
Juice of 1 lemon
3/4 cup sugar
Dash of salt
Combine ingredients and boil gently for 3 or 4 minutes.

Growing up in New Jersey I enjoyed more of my grandmother Ward's (Granny) cooking than my grandmother Cosand (Grandmaw). Ethel Ward was a great baker and this cake is one of my favorites. She would often make it for special family occasions.
