1/4 cup shortening
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup sour cream
2 2/3 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

In a large mixing bowl, cream together shortening, butter sugar, egg and vanilla. In a sparate bowl sift together dry ingredients. Slowly add sifted dry ingredients to shortening mixture and add sour cream. On a sheet of waxed paper or plastic wrap, form into a log, wrap well, and refrigerate until the dough is well chilled. Preheat oven to 425F. Slice chilled cookie dough 1/4 inch thick and place on greased cookie sheets. Bake for 5 minutes.
These are best when frosted with cream cheese frosting.
