1 1/4 cup boiling water
1 1/2 cup chopped dates
1 1/2 cups all bran
One egg slightly beaten
2 tablespoons melted shortening
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup sugar
Three-quarter cup chopped nut meats

Directions:
Directions:
Pour boiling water over dates and cool. Add all bran, egg, shortening and flavoring. Sift flour when with baking powder, soda salt and sugar, add nuts. Add to first mixture and star only until smooth. Bake in greased loaf pan in moderate oven. 350° 50 to 55 minutes.
